# Decode Asset Life Cycle Costs at the SAAMA Conference

May 7, 2015The second annual SAAMA Conference, hosted by the Southern Africa Asset Management Association, takes place from 12 to 14 May 2015 at the CTICC in Cape Town. This year’s conference theme is focused on Life Cycle Costing (LCC) pertaining to design, implementation, operation and maintenance, as well as the replacement phases in an asset’s life.

The Business benefits of the journey from maintenance to asset management presentation (Tuesday, 12 May) by John Hardwick, Chairman of the Global Forum on Maintenance and Asset Management (GFMAM) is sure to be a highlight on this year’s conference programme. As part of his presentation Hardwick will unpack the intricacies of Physical Asset Maintenance and Asset Life Cycle Costs, a headache for most operational managers.

Life Cycle Costing is a tool or model that enables comparative cost assessments to be made over a specified period of time, taking into account all relevant economic factors both in terms of initial capital costs, future operational and maintenance costs, as well as replacement costs. A small error in planning, for example one or two percent, can have a ten to twenty percent effect on the whole-of-life cost.

Delegates attending the conference sessions will gain the tools to develop costing models in support of asset life cycle management, a holistic view of all costs involved with assets over their full life span and strategic knowledge on how to better plan for and manage ageing assets and reduce associated risks. Apart from Hardwicks’s presentation, a wide range of case studies will be presented, demonstrating the practical application of best practices. With the range of topics available, it is advisable for companies to send several delegates to fully utilise the content to their disposal.

Additional speakers will include David McKeown, CEO of the IAM, Erik Helms Nielsen, CEO of Reliasset, Geert Fuchs and Ruben Busink, Royal HaskoningDHV, Dr Hal Belmonte of Aurecon, David Bidwell of Qualitrol Corporation/TAS and Paul Taylor of Powertech System Integrators. Our guest speaker is Clem Sunter.

For more information or to register for the SAAMA Conference, visit www.saamaconference.org.za. The conference is co-located with the African Utility Week (AUW) and Clean Power Africa conference and exhibition. SAAMA conference attendees will enjoy free entrance into the exhibition area.
